Data-Informed Decision Making for Schools

The Virginia Tiered Systems of Support (VTSS) is excited to offer a full day of training around Data-Informed Decision Making for school-based teams. This event is centered around developing a common understanding of what a Data-Informed Decision Making (DIDM) process is and how to facilitate this process. As a school-based team you leave this day having worked through identifying your school's biggest challenge area, the “why” behind this area, and the potential gaps in data you need to collect. You will practice writing a precision problem statement, creating goals, selecting interventions, and developing an action plan.

Who should attend?

DIDM for Schools Professional Learning event will be the most effective if the entire school-based MTSS/Tier 1 team can attend. While whole teams are preferred we also understand the difficulties in achieving this. In order for this training to be meaningful, a minimum of an administrator (someone with access to data sets), the school MTSS coach, and another school team member should attend as a group. There will be multiple opportunities for extended work time throughout the day with the goal of an actionable product created and ready for attendees to take back and work on during the coming school-year.

Learning Intentions:

  • Understand what a structured problem-solving process entails and how data is used throughout the process.
  • Establish the role of the school team in the problem-solving process
  • Analyze data to identify red flags to begin the process of a root-cause analysis
  • Practice defining problems with precision and establish goals
  • Start to determine practices and systems needed to achieve an identified goal
  • Establish a process to monitor outcomes and fidelity of the implementation plan
