Strand 2: Academic Alignment
The Strand 2 virtual training will examine the components of an academic system of supports in order to align with other systems. In the first session, participants will review the role of the Division Leadership Team in supporting an aligned academic structure at the division and school levels, identify, access, and analyze Tier 1 academic assessment data, and begin to examine the components of quality core Tier 1 instruction, and examine the implications of our current context.
In the first session, participants will review the role of the Division Leadership Team in supporting an aligned academic structure at the division and school levels, examine the process for developing an assessment inventory, and understand the selection and implementation of a universal screening system.
Intended Audience: Division leadership teams who are interested in implementing tiered supports for academics
Learning intentions:
- Review the responsibilities of the Division Leadership Team to align all supports within a VTSS structure. (Matrix 1B, 1C)
- Understand the process of developing an assessment inventory. (Matrix 5A)
- Understand the use of a Universal Screening process within a tiered system, including purpose, selection, and importance for evaluating overall academic health; the use of an Early Warning System will also be explored (Matrix 5B & 5C)
- Begin the development of a process to create a written description of the expectations for quality Tier 1 academic instruction and a system for communicating the expectations to stakeholders. (Matrix 3.A, 1.G, 1.H)

Materials:
In the December virtual session of Strand 2, Academic Alignment, participants will explore how the members of the Division Level Team can support school leadership to define quality instruction, identify evidence-based Tier 1 practices and develop a culturally responsive continuum of supports to meet learner needs, and to implement data meeting structures at the school and division level.
Learning intentions:
- Develop a process to create a written description of the expectations for quality Tier 1 academic instruction and a system for communicating the expectations to stakeholders.
- Examine existing evidence-based Tier 1 practices to create a continuum of supports that is culturally responsive and is utilized to provide an instructional match to meet learner needs
- Develop a plan for implementing
Materials:
Please make sure you have the latest version of Zoom before attending the virtual session.
